Recently I have been playing around with flavors.me. For those of you that have not seen it, flavors.me allows you to create a personal portal for your online identity. It does this with a flair for design and style that I many people can not reproduce on their own.

When you first create an account it will start asking for your sites. This is usually facebook, your blog, twitter and other accounts. It then pulls all of this information together to create your portal.

Once you have selected your sites you can then upload a background and start playing around with fonts and layout. Now the options here are pretty limited and to be honest you might be able to do a better job with a site own your own if you have the skill. The Apple iPad and why I think it is good

On 1-27-2010 Apple announced a new product called the iPad. So many people are yelling about the product release and how it is not that good, how it falls short and does not deliver on the dream of the Apply tablet. Some of these arguments are valid, but I am not really sure that the tablet is going to be a failure.

Let me start with what this device is not. This should go without saying, but it is not a laptop replacement. I know that most people are saying that it is to compete with a netbook, but that is really not what this product should or will do. This is meant to augment a laptop or desktop not replace anything. So do not look at this as what you can replace, but what you augment.

Lets take a look at what this will be great at. The first would be reading ebooks. You might say that you could buy a kindle or nook and do the same things. While that is true I think if you open your mind you will see this will do so much more. You could not compose email on a nook. You can not browse the web on the kindle.

A netbook would give you the web browsing ability, but would not give you the really good ebook experience. It will let you doing email in a very good way. In fact I would even argue that the email experience on a netbook would be better, but the web browsing on a netbook really sucks save for being able to play flash content.

The final piece is the price. Just like most of Apple’s products this thing comes with a “cool” tax. That means this thing is priced more than a kindle or a netbook, but wait lets take a step back. For your $650 or less you get an ebook reader and netbook. So that makes the price not as bad as you might think.

Lets look at some of the things Apple could have done to make the device better. The first and foremost would be to add a camera. I think this goes without saying and I will not talk much about it. The other thing would be to add expandable storage. This would give the device much more flexibility.

So when it comes to the iPad I would recommend that you open your mind a bit and look at what all it will give you. Once you do that and put the device into proper context I think you will see it is very compelling.

I just took my handgun carry permit class. I have to say that I had a lot of fun. The instructor was great and I was able to complete the course with a 100%. Here is my target from the qualification course.

I fired 48 rounds, put 40 in the 10 ring! You shout from three different distance 3.5, 10 and 15. I did this with a Rock Island 1911 chambered in .45 ACP.

Moved to Sprint and found a Hero

I recently left T-Mobile and by proxy my beloved G1. At this point I stepped back and took a good look at the space and decided to go with sprint for reasons I will talk about later in the post. This also meant that I was looking for a new device. That journey was a little revealing and taught me a lot about myself and devices as a whole.

Why Sprint? This is a question that several people have asked me and I really do not know why. They are one of the least expensive plans and really good data speeds. Add to that the fact they are rolling out 4G and you have a winner. I was a sprint customer about 10 years ago and I really liked them. Since then I have been with AT&T and they sucked. I also have been with T-Mobile and they were just OK. I would not go with Verizon because of the cost and corporate policies. So back to sprint I went.

Once it was settled that sprint would be the company I had to chose a device. In that space I have a soft spot for Palm. I think they did a lot of good early on and then dropped the ball as other smart phones started to take off. So I went with the Pre. I have to say that the WebOS is pretty damn awesome. After a couple of days it was really apparent that the app support was lacking in a major way. I also started to miss my Android.

Then I held the Hero and OMG! This was what I had been missing, the link, the holy grail! I have to say that I am understating how awesome the device is. The iPhone was the best feeling phone that I ever held in my hand. It was also a good device as long as I did not want to touch anything. The Hero gave me the feel of the iPhone, but without the limits. The phone feels very solid and comfortable. The SenseUI also make the whole device feel very different than any other Android phone. It feels very modern, even more so than the iPhone.

The device does have some short comings. The battery life is not great, but I can add an extended battery without adding bulk. Well that is about it for the downsides. I guess this is pretty bad. Ok, I have missed one major flaw. NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THE PHONE!!!!! Sprint has done a crappy job of advertising it. Why the hell are they advertising the Pre and no Android? Did you guys know they are getting an 800mgz phone with a full keyboard? That is correct and it is made by Samsung. Maybe marketing is why Sprint is in trouble.

I encourage everyone to get out to a Sprint store and check out this device. You will be impressed.

New Job and New Host

This week marks a new start for me on a number of fronts. First of all it marks a new job with an awesome company. I have also decided to start back blogging. In making the choice to start blogging, I have also moved most of my dolman functions to Google apps including blogger for my blog.

So first things first, I have started with MainNerve as the general manager of the central region. I will be primarily in charge of services and product deployment. This is an exciting opportunity for me. Not only do I get to branch off in new directions, but I also get to help build a young company.

As many of you know I have hosted my blog on Wordpress in the past. I found myself not having the time or inclination to update the software as often as needed to be done. By moving to blogger and Google apps it will free me to focus on posting content and using my tools and not focus on updating them.

So all in all a good week and looks to be a good 2010…. I will keep you posted.
